Labour to protect the state pension triple lock

Tom Hayes, Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Bournemouth East, has welcomed Sir Keir Starmer’s promise to keep the state pension triple lock for at least five years if he wins the next General Election. This commitment will be a manifesto commitment.

The triple lock guarantees that state pension payments will increase by either the rate of inflation, average earnings, or 2.5 per cent annually; whichever is highest.

Tom is a mental health and domestic abuse charity CEO in his day job. One of the charity’s services supports people aged 63+ with mental health issues, including those arising from financial concerns and hardship. Supporting older people to access the funds they’re entitled to and promoting their mental health is a priority of his campaign for Parliament.

Tom Hayes, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Bournemouth East, said: “Bournemouth’s pensioners deserve better. Nobody should be forced to skip a meal, cut back on social visits, or live in cold, damp houses because they are worried about their financial situation. Labour’s commitment to keep the state pension triple lock hopefully shows Bournemouth’s pensioners that we care about them and their wellbeing.”
